If you’re looking for a relaxed shared day trip, the Providence V Whitehaven Beach & Snorkelling Cruise is a great choice, with sailing, Hill Inlet lookout, Whitehaven Beach, and snorkelling. For something shorter, the Tallship Sunset Sail is a 2-hour cruise with bubbles and nibbles. For private groups, special occasions, or overnight escapes, MiLady private charters offer a skippered French yacht experience for up to 12 guests on day charters or 6 guests overnight.
-
No. Guests can relax on deck and enjoy the scenery, or get involved by helping hoist the sails on Providence V. All cruises are skippered by experienced crew, so no sailing experience is required.
-
Whitsunday Sailing is eco-accredited by Ecotourism Australia and focuses on reducing waste and carbon impact. They don’t sell bottled water, use biodegradable and recycled materials, have environmental toilets onboard, and sail whenever possible to keep emissions low.
Best Time to Visit the Whitsundays
-
The Whitsundays enjoy a tropical climate year-round. Here is a breakdown of our seasonal average air and water temperatures to help you choose the best month for your sailing trip:

-
While the Whitsundays are beautiful year-round, the winter months (June to August) are the best time to visit if you want to see wildlife. Humpback whales and their calves frequently visit our warm, protected waters during this season.
-
No, we do not operate any of our tours, day sails, or private charters on Christmas Day.
What to Pack for a Whitehaven Sailing Day
-
Packing depends slightly on which vessel and cruise you choose:
-
Providence Day Sail: Bring a towel, change of clothes, swimwear, hat, sunscreen, shoes, a warm winter jacket, and a card for drink purchases. You may also bring snacks or your own food if you chose not to purchase catering.
-
Providence Sunset Sail: Bring a warm winter jacket, a card for drink purchases, and shoes that can be easily slipped off.
-
MiLady Day Sail: Bring a towel, change of clothes, swimwear, hat, sunscreen, shoes, a warm winter jacket, and a card for drink purchases. (Note: MiLady features a hot/cold freshwater deck shower to rinse off after swimming.)
-
MiLady Overnight Charter: Pack lightly in a small duffle or cabin bag. Bring swimwear, a change of clothes, warm layers for the evening, personal toiletries, and baby food/formula if you are traveling with an infant.
-
-
Large suitcases cannot be stored on our transfer buses or onboard the vessels. For day sails, standard day bags are fine. For MiLady overnight charters, please only bring small duffle or cabin-style bags. If you have large luggage, you can store it securely at the Airlie Beach Travel Shop for $10 per day.
-
No, our tours are not BYO. However, you can easily pre-purchase alcohol, standard beers, premium beers, ginger beer, wines, and premixed drinks via our online shop before your trip.
-
Card payments are highly preferred for all onboard purchases. If you are booking a private charter, you also have the option to set up a bar tab ahead of time.
-
You are welcome to bring your own personal snorkeling mask or gear, but please do not bring swim fins, as we do not use or supply fins to protect our local coral reefs. Stand-up paddleboards (SUPs) are already provided for all 3+ night charters on MiLady, so you do not need to bring your own.
What Happens if the Weather is Bad?
-
The Whitsundays are highly protected by the Great Barrier Reef, meaning our inner reef waters usually stay calm, flat, and comfortable even if it is a bit windy or cloudy! Cloud cover or light wind will not stop our tours from running.
-
Your safety is our absolute priority. If the weather conditions are genuinely unsafe to sail, we will cancel the trip and contact you immediately. In the event that we cancel the tour, you will receive a full refund. (Please note: If you booked through a travel agent, your refund will be processed back through that specific agency).
-
Yes, we offer a flexible 72-hour cancellation policy for standard bookings. You can freely change or reschedule your booking up to 72 hours before your scheduled departure time.
-
Because we travel on large, stable sailing vessels rather than bumpy fast-boats, the motion is much smoother and less jolty. However, if you are prone to seasickness, we highly recommend purchasing motion sickness medication from a local pharmacy and taking it 1 hour before departure. Please note that our crew is legally not permitted to supply travel sickness medication on board.
Stinger Season Explained
-
Yes, wearing a stinger suit is strongly advised and highly recommended from November through May, which is the official Stinger Season in the Whitsundays. Stinger suits are provided on board to keep you safe and comfortable while swimming and snorkeling.
-
Yes! If you are visiting during the cooler winter months (June to August) and want extra warmth, full wetsuits can be hired from Aqua Dive located right at the Coral Sea Marina.
-
Because the Providence Day Sail departs early in the morning, you must visit Aqua Dive at the marina the afternoon before your trip to be properly fitted and pick up your wetsuit hire.
First Time Sailing? What to Expect
-
Absolutely! The vast majority of our guests have never sailed before. Our professional crew takes care of everything. You are welcome to completely relax, or if you feel like joining in, our crew will happily show you how to help pull up the sails by hand!
-
We certainly think so! Unlike loud, bumpy fast-boats that jolt over the waves, our large sailing vessels offer a much smoother, quieter, and more relaxed journey. You will have plenty of open deck space to stretch out and move around comfortably while underway.
-
No, we intentionally keep our guest numbers small to ensure a premium, spacious experience.
